One profound development in the way I learned to learn things was when I read Cliff Wright’s book ‘The Magic of Drawing’. Cliff is a Sussex-based illustrator, painter, sculptor and teacher well-known for his work on two of the Harry Potter book covers. This book solidified the way I’d been experiencing my learning of piano. The exercises take you through the actual experience of drawing rather than focusing on the end result. Apart from making the actual act of drawing incredibly enjoyable, the end results become amazingly improved. I learnt that drawing is more about seeing before it is about drawing, it’s about experiencing the very essence of what you are depicting, which, when you manage to let go and let your creativity come through, is very liberating.

From this, I realised that all learning should be like this. There is a way that we can fully experience all the things we learn.

After meeting Cliff and attending his workshops, we have become firm friends, and are now working together, combining our interests in art and music to find new journeys to the source of creativity. Watch out for our workshops at Art in Action, Oxford 2014!
You can find out more about Cliff's work and his book here: www.cliffwright.co.uk

If you are interested in prints of any of these drawings or would like a personalised house portrait in the style shown, please contact me. I now run drawing workshops, which also link into the inspirational speaking as it gives an experience of action from inspiration. The approach is the main focus and is applicable to anyone and everyone as a new and different way of experiencing learning!
